What is the Collection Display?

The Collection Display is a full-screen board that customers watch while waiting for their order. It works like the screens you see in McDonald's, Wetherspoons and other quick service restaurants — orders move from the Being Prepared column to the Ready to Collect column when kitchen staff mark them as complete.

Order numbers are shown large enough to read from across a café or restaurant floor. When an order moves to Ready, the display briefly flashes the number so customers don't miss it.

Opening the Collection Display

Open a browser on any screen on your local network and go to:

http://[your-server-ip]:3000/collection

For the best experience, go fullscreen with F11 (Windows/Linux) or Control + Command + F (Mac). Mount the screen where customers can see it easily — behind the counter or above the collection point.

💡
A large TV mounted on the wall works best. Any device with a browser works — a spare tablet propped on a stand is a low-cost option for smaller venues.

How it works

  1. Cashier completes a sale — order number assigned (e.g. #42)
  2. Ticket appears on the Order Display in the kitchen with #42 at the top
  3. Order #42 appears in the Being Prepared column on the Collection Display in amber
  4. Kitchen staff work through the order and tap the advance button
  5. Order #42 moves to the Ready to Collect column in green — display flashes briefly
  6. Customer sees their number turn green and collects their order
  7. Cashier taps Collected on the Order Display — order disappears from the Collection Display

Live updates

The Collection Display connects to QuickPOS via a live stream — updates appear instantly when kitchen staff advance a ticket, with no page refresh needed. If the connection drops, it reconnects automatically within a few seconds.
